Tow Truck Accident Claims Two Lives On North Freeway

Two people lost their lives following a fatal two-vehicle collision in north Fort Worth.

A tow truck crashed into another vehicle on the North Freeway near Highway 287.

The crash occurred at about 2 a.m. on Monday.

Two people in the other vehicle died of their injuries as a result of the collision.

The accident led to the closure of the interstate.

The identities of the victims have yet to be released as of the time of filing this report.

The cause of the crash is still unknown but investigation is underway. 

A tow truck is usually equipped with winches, chains and related equipment, and used to haul disabled vehicles to a repair shop.

There are different types of tow trucks such as flatbed tow trucks, integrated tow trucks, hook and chain tow trucks, and wheel-lift tow trucks.

Tow trucks are considered first responders but they are the source of an accident sometimes.

Some factors responsible for tow truck accidents are inattentiveness, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, flouting of traffic rules, mechanical failure and little to no training.

Just like in other vehicle accidents, tow truck accidents can cause lifelong back, head or neck injuries for victims and serious damage to vehicles.

Victims can also suffer burns, traumatic brain injury, or crushing injuries resulting in broken bones and internal bleeding.

In extreme cases, lives are lost.
