Pedestrian Killed in Westlake Crash

A man lost his life late Friday following a fatal crash on the westbound lanes of Highway 114 near Kirkwood Boulevard.

Multiple agencies responded to the crash just before midnight. 

They saw a deceased man lying on the roadway and found that he had been hit by a vehicle.

Paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

At least one driver reportedly stopped at the scene.

The incident led to the closure of all westbound lanes of 114 at Kirkwood.

The Keller Police Department is investigating the crash.

A pedestrian accident occurs when a vehicle strikes a person who is not in a vehicle or someone who is on foot. 

The major causes of pedestrian accidents include failing to yield right of way; crossing a roadway or intersection improperly; standing, lying, playing or working in a roadway; poor visibility; being under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication; running into the road; distractions (texting, calls, etc.); physical impairments; walking the wrong way; and being on roads/highways prohibiting pedestrians.

Common pedestrian injuries are contusions, lacerations, strains, sprains, dislocations and tears. Others are spinal cord, head and brain injuries.

Pedestrians may also have broken bones and bone fractures in the event of a crash.

Fatal pedestrian accidents are believed to occur between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
